YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BOOK ONLINE SOON!!! THERE IS NO RUSH – WE HAVE PLENTY OF SPACE
Welcome to the official website for the biggest annual Geocaching Mega Camping Event in the UK - Piratemania! This is the place to come to find out about all the fab stuff we have planned for Piratemania 2013! Last year there were approximately 960 attendees, how many of us will there be this year?! After three fabulous events at Peak Gateway in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, this year we are having a change of venue. We’re setting sail for Stratford Racecourse, Stratford upon Avon – pirates on horseback, yarrrrrrr!
We’ll be camping from Thursday 25th July to Sunday 4th August 2013. This means that you will be able to pitch up and stay in the area for the nearby UK Mega Event which is taking place the following weekend. We’ll give you details of how to book your mooring, and how much the harbour fees will be, as soon as we have everything finalised.
Piratemania is good clean family fun – that means fun for children AND adults! Yarrrrrrr!
Click the video above to play.

Once everyone has settled in on site on Friday, the Pirate Captains are announced, and they choose their teams, Red or Blue! When the fun and games commence on Saturday, the main event day, there will be opportunities for winning doubloons – pirates hand these to their captains, and once they are all counted up, the winning team is announced, and the winning Pirate Captain is presented with the Piratemania Trophy.
Pirates have a lot in common with Geocachers. They meet up, study maps and hunt for treasure! And when they’ve found it, they have some scran and a jug of grog…

The whole weekend is “as piratey as possible” and that happens the moment you arrive at camp. Massive pirate flags welcome you in, and you’re greeted no doubt by a mad crew dressed up like a series of extras from Pirates of the Caribbean!

There’s lots more to the event than clothing, though – there’s plenty of caching to be done!

And cakes to be eaten…

An outbreak of scurvy hit the 2012 event, so we had to take in copious amounts of Vitamin C – unfortunately, we only had mad hot chillies, still, if you ate one, it won you DOUBLOONS!

There’s always a little glitz…

and too much grog…

but mayhem all around, and plenty of smiles…

it’s quite simple really… PIRATEMANIA!

I’m a little confused. I recently purchased a coin and tag from a recent event which bears your web address (www.mega2012.co.uk). I was under the impression that the Mega event was being hosted in the Motor Centre on the first weekend in August. Now the website is saying a different venue and date. What is happening? I’m a bit annoyed as I’ve book a hotel in Warwick for a week later than your event.

Matthew Riverson you are confusing this event http://www.piratemania.org with this one http://www.mega2013.org.uk/ – Piratemania is not the UK Mega Event, that is taking place the following weekend at the Motor Centre.

Really confused now! The coin I bought said Heritage Motor Centre on and the tag says “UK Mega 2013, http://www.mega2013.co.uk“. When I typed in the web address I got redirected here. Are the two events linked?

No, the events are not linked. Please contact someone at Mega2013 as that is the event you are attending, and they will be able to assist you.

The URL for the Mega event at the Heritage Motor Centre during the first weekend of August was originally http://www.mega2013.co.uk but the owner of this domain has re-pointed it to the Piratemania site, thereby causing some confusion. It’s great that there will be two mega events on successive weekends as many people will enjoy both – see us at http://www.mega2013.org.uk – our new home.

We will have a limited number of hook ups, precise number as yet unknown. We will certainly keep two reserved for you knowing your medical requirements. Joshua has got a uke now too, so will be looking for some expert tuition

Hello!
We are new to geocaching this year and would love to come to Piratemania. We want to camp on the Friday night, does anyone know how to book this? I noticed that some people have already commented that they have booked their pitch. Sounds like great fun – can’t wait!
